Thomas Daniel

Born in Charlotte, N.C., Thomas A. Daniel is a veteran of the Vietnam War and began his photographic career in South Vietnam. He went on to receive a BFA in communication art and design from Virginia Commonwealth University, a Masters in photography from Goddard College, and an MFA in photography and film from VCU. He later returned to VCU as a Distinguished Visiting Artist in Photography.

Daniel's first photographs were of war and are in the permanent collection of the Corcoran Museum. His work is also in the collections of the Chrysler Museum of Art, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the William Benton Museum of Art, and VCU's Anderson Gallery. His publications include The Indelible Image: Photographs of War—1846 to the Present, Thomas Daniel, Into My Eyes, and The Southern Cause.

A four-time winner of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellowship, Daniel's work has been shown in over 200 exhibits throughout the United States and abroad.
